Welcome to Binge-Worthy GTM

Where your love for GTM strategy, movies, and TV collide

Hey there!

Welcome to Binge-Worthy GTM — a newsletter for current and aspiring go-to-market leaders who are passionate about two things: honing their professional craft and watching TV and movies.

Ernest Hemingway said, “There is no friend as loyal as a book.”

But, let’s be real. He’s not a reliable source. The guy has never binge-watched Friends, Ted Lasso, or Suits on his iPad Mini from the comfort of an AmEx Centurion Lounge. He wouldn’t get it.

I know what you’re thinking: This newsletter niche makes no sense. To that, I say, you’re right. But, give me a chance to explain:

I’ve been looking to get back to writing for a long time. My dormant (read: dead) newsletter, Gridology, was a 2020 passion project that blended analytical thinking with career development advice, relationship guidance, and business topics. I wrote some fun posts about how to maintain your relationships, what your headphone habits say about you, and how to accelerate your career growth.

Weekly for around 10 months, I cheffed up weekly posts (40+ of them) and met great people on the internet. Total treat.

But then, it happened 😱.

The Gridology idea drawer ran out of proverbial socks. Willpower faded once normal life resumed after the pandemic. Writing went from a weekly delight to a deathly chore.

As I reflect on that experience, what worked so well in the beginning—what gave me the energy to write for a few hours a week—was writing for me. If you ask a good writer why the write, most will say it’s to think more clearly. David Perell does an excellent job explaining the value of writing. It hits home for me. I got too bogged down in open rates and subscriber growth, and it made writing Gridology super un-fun.

Call me John Wick because I’m back.

So, here we are. I’m back behind the keyboard after taking some extended time off. I’m back for me, not for you (but I do think you’ll enjoy it nonetheless). Trust me, it’s what you want in a writer. Think of me as Nic Pizzolatto writing season three of True Detective. The man took four years to reset and came back better than ever (and snagged Mahershala Ali as his leading man). I only needed three!

This newsletter niche is born out of two true passions of mine: bringing products to market and media. Scour the internet and you will find plenty of newsletters, blogs, and podcasts that share GTM best practices, reality TV recaps, marketing frameworks, and movie reviews. How many blend the two? I thought so.

This newsletter is a chance to connect the dots between our careers and what we all love to watch—an oeuvre of “bringing your full self to work.”

If you leave each post thinking about your day job in a new light or having a go-to-market concept make more sense to you, then I’ll take it as a bonus. The primary win is getting back on the keyboard horse—hitting send regularly, organizing my thinking, and memorializing some thoughts on paper in a fun way. Nothing serious. Good vibes only.

There will be silly AI usage in this newsletter to bring my absurd metaphors and analogies to life — like this keyboard horse I’m jumping back on. (Photo Credit: “computer keyboard horse” by DALL-E).

One week, I may discuss how Walter White was a better product marketer than he was a meth cook (hot take, I know). The next week, I could jump to what Vanderpump Rules teaches us about viral marketing. Who knows — maybe I’ll discuss brand trust while leveraging topical examples from the life of Kendall Roy. You can’t get this stuff from Seth Godin, I promise.

With any newsletter, I’m sure you’d like to know who’ll be sliding into your inbox semi-regularly (shooting for at least 3-4 times a month). Let me share a bit more about myself:

  • I specialize in building GTM strategies for 0-to-1 B2B products. I’m currently a Senior Product Marketing Manager at Lattice where I lead our GTM strategy for our latest product, Lattice HRIS.

  • My superpower is crushing entire seasons of TV in a day. Recent 24-hour takedowns include Reacher S1 and The Diplomat (they never stood a chance).

  • I bring 9 years of technology experience across marketing, operations, insights, sales, and recruiting from tech companies big (LinkedIn) and small (Sounder).

  • If you enjoy Stranger Things, Survivor, Harry Potter, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (before Feige, Chapek, and Eiger ruined it), Black Mirror, and Christopher Nolan films, we will get along well.

Too much professional content is “framework this,” “mental model that.” Here, we will bring foundational GTM concepts, strategies, and examples to life through art. This will be fun. Smart, but playful. Informative, but with plenty of pity chuckles and entertaining scoffs.

Above all, Binge-Worthy GTM is never mundane.

They say too much TV will rot your brain. Well, I’ve watched a ton of it, and I’m fine. You’ll see…
